Got only 70 pages in. Bleak book. So cannot speak to sexual explicit. I can tell you that abuse will have something to do with it. Also the self hatred of never being able to look 'pretty.' Pecola comes from a poor, dysfunctional, black family, and she will never be able to look like the dolls she is supposed to love, or like Shirley Temple with her blue eyes and corn colored curls. Important messages here, but I am already aware of them.
