I love to read stories set in Scandinavia and in particular in Iceland so this was a sure sitter for me. I've read a previous book by Indridason and enjoyed that very much.
This book has also been released at "Jar City". I recently started reading this while on holiday in France and it felt very familiar so found I had all ready read it.

A bit gruesome but interesting nevertheless.

to be saved for next years 666 challenge.

Read as part of the 666 challenge. How fascinating this turned out to be, with good insights into Icelandic culture. A small society and a national health database has both benefits and pitfalls. The book also explores how doctors often lose their way as they keep specimens and so on. New Zealand as had several instances of doctors keeping specimens and experimenting, without the proper authority and ethical oversight.
I like it when a whodunnit also intelligently explores wider issues, it lifts the book into a different class altogether.
Enjoyed this and would be pleased to read more by this author. Recommended.

Thanks for passing this on. I holidayed in Iceland once, geographically it is like New Zealand all squashed into a smaller area. There's the bubbling mud, the volcanic rock, the glaciers, the flat plains, and lots of coastline.

The characters in this thriller are interesting, although I got a little confused with remembering who some of them were. The story itself had a few translation issues with conversations being rather stilted, and sometimes a character would seem to spontaneously apologise for something I assume is considered rude in Iceland but I couldn't pick it out.

Towards the end the main cop appeared exceptionally dumb, when he knew the occupation of someone but was wondering how they knew about the dead child.

I would be interested in reading another in the series.
