It took me a long time to begin reading this book and when I did, it took me some time to finish it... But somewhere in the middle the story got me totally! So the beginning was hard to me but it can also be because I read a bit slower in English than in Finnish.
Anyway, what a great book and story this is! I could recommend this book to many people to read (and sure many people have already read it, too, as it is said to be ´the million-copy bestseller´. I hadn't read anything from a Korean writer before and this really was a great experience for me.

Thanks for the book, Tuittupeppi! I think I picked this up based on someone's recommendations and look forward to reading it.
What a beautiful book! It really made me think about mothers of the world through history. Women haven't had much power but often they are the ones who in the end take the responcibility of raising and supporting the family. In many ways So-nyo brought to mind my grandmother who had eight kids and a husband who was away a lot and she was left to take care of everything, often also supporting the family. Only very recently have women and mothers had the luxury of making choices in their lives.

I found it difficult to get into the book, think it was mostly because of the writing style. But once I got into it, it was easier to read the book. It makes you wonder, how well do you actually know your mother? She sacrificed so many things for her family which they had never knew about, they all took her for granted and did not realize how important she was to them all until after she went missing. Guess that is the lesson for us all, not to take the people around us for granted.
