Subtitle: An Alaska Legend of Betrayal, Courage and Survival; illustrations by Jim Grant.
Based on an Athabascan legend: during a very hard winter, two old women are abandoned by their tribe. The easiest thing for them to do is die...but they decide to "die trying, not sitting".
Believers in "you're only as old as you feel" would approve of their story.
This is book 16/59 (Alaska) for NancyNova's 2013-2014 US states & territories reading challenge.
Here's another copy on my BookCrossing shelf.

I had set this book aside for a Native American-themed bookbox but great minds think alike and when I received the box a copy of this book was already in there!
So it will be released at the book festival instead.

Reclaimed from the Hawaii Book and Music Festival for Erishkigal.
The two old women are looking for somewhere warmer - they may try the desert for a while.

They should definitely warm up where we're heading :-D Though it gets cold at night. We've been warned to bring warm clothes to layer on at night, and plenty of flashlights and lanterns, as there will be NO campfires this year; it's tinderbox dry, with fires in AZ, NM, and UT. The sacred fire will still be going throughout the ceremony, but there are firemen tending it 24/7and it's well out in the open.
Thank you again for your generosity, hyphen8!! I think this is the last of your books now journalled~~if I have missed one, please pm.

I LOVE this book! And am so thrilled to be able to take it down for the give-away!
Had I realized books were going to be asked for, I wouldn't have sent my copy out in the NAbb ;p But I didn't, when I sent the box, the leaders were saying only traditional hand-made items. Thanks for sending this copy for me to take!
