Newbery Honor book from the author of Strawberry Girl. Like that book, this one is illustrated by the author.
Mary Jemison, sometimes called Molly, was born at sea as her parents traveled to America. Her family settled in Pennsylvania and lived there until they were captured by the Senecas in 1758. Mary traveled with her captors, first to Ohio, and then to New York, where she lived out the rest of her life, becoming known as the "White Woman of the Genesee".
Based on a true story: it sounds like the original document (Mary/Molly's story as told to J.E. Seaver) might make interesting reading too. It's available through Project Gutenberg...

Molly is off on a new adventure thanks to Erishkigal's Native American bookbox.
Although this copy has a different cover, I added a picture of the original Lois Lenski cover art here just because I think it's cute. :)
