warmhearted story of an Italian-American widow Francesca - who reaches out to help a family - and happily - herself!
Having just returned from a wonderful trip to Italy and married to an Italian-German, I really enjoyed the familiar & wonderful focus on family, food shared, a strong woman with values and a big heart.
I'm sending this to MyssCyn - a surprise from her wishlist - just because!

Thank you SO much. I am starting this right now. I really appreciate the RABCK. LOVE the bookplate too, even though i cant read it. You'd think i would have picked up some Italian from my family but i never did. Didn't pick up any German from Mom's relatives either. Oh well....
Edit 2/23/13 I LOVE this book. I wish I could say it sounds like my grandma but part way through I see myself lol. When did I get so old?

MYSSCYN!!! You are such a sweetheart for sending me this wishlist book! You are so generous and caring, a true champion of the RABCK! I have started being a companion to a lovely 84 yr old Italian/Canadian lady so I am looking forward to reading this soon!
Again, many thanks my friend!
Yes, a very cool label from Italy!

I have been waiting for a book like this for months now! I picked it off my bed table TBR pile, two nights ago, and I am enjoying it so much! I haven't had a book grab me like this in such a long time, what a treat! I'm more than halfway and thought that I would thank you, my dear MyssCynn for sending this gem to me. Now I want to give myself a smack up da Sida da head for not picking it up sooner, but I suppose that it's time has come finally, and I am grateful!
This morning at 7 am...
That "oh shit! Moment" when you put your book down and realize that you are almost late for work and you haven't even showered yet!
Glad to report that I made it to work on time!
Today at 3:30, as soon as I got home from work, I was on the couch finishing this book. What a sweet book! Ok, it was pretty predictable but it was such an interesting story, it was ok. Throughout the book, I was taken back to my elderly client, Nina. She loved her salad with a simple oil and vinegar dressing with lettuce, cucumber and salt and pepper. God help me I I tried to change that! She taught me how to make pizzelles, and tomato sauce with pork chops and pasta. It was like the character of Francesca was Nina, too.
Thank you to JDT for sending this gem to MyssCyn and to MyssCyn for sending it to me!

Meeting with Fracula for coffee and passing on some books to return to the group.
Picked up from Herchelle to return this to the Calgary BookCrossing group.
Taken to the February meet-up of Calgary BookCrossers, held at Cravings Market Restaurant.
Picked this up at the Feb BookCrossing meeting.
A feel good kind of book. A little to predictable and stereotypical for me.
Bringing this to the April BookCrossing meeting to be enjoyed by the next reader.
Safely in my hands....
I quite enjoyed this "coming of age " book for a senior. This book resonated with me. We are old but not out to pasture. It reminded me a bit of Angela Lansbury's Mrs Aris goes to Paris. ( movie) I guess I am kind of a sucker for nice, predictable, happy ending books. And this one came with recipes as well. The only thing I couldn't relate to was the absolute joy she had in cooking. To me it is a chore, that needs to be done, every day, 3 times a day, forever....
I am taking this book to our monthly bookcrossers meet up at Cravings - the second Saturday of every month- to pass on to the next reader.
Brought this home from the May meat up at Cravings.
Yes - it was pretty predictable but it was a nice read.
I am taking this back to the May meetup at Cravings.
Just picked this up at our last meeting and haven't read it yet.
For years Francesca Campanile was the queen of her home. Cooking for her family, but now the kids have moved away and the widowed Francesca is bored. She finds a part time job as a nanny and it's time for her to work her magic and the best place is too start in the kitchen. It is a wonderful book about Italian-American families . The book is funny and is a great story about sharing love, life, advice and food. It turned out to be a very endearing love story too.

A fun read about Francesca, an Italian mother whose children have grown and husband who has passed away, leaving her with too much time to fill! To end that she applies for a babysitting position and is hired to take care of two children. It turns out tHat more than just the children need Francesca’s care.
This is an easy read and a fun little story where family values are emphasized and meaningful for Francesca!

(just wanted to thank you all for journaling the travels of this book the last 5-1/2 years! I was in Calgary for the first time last month, and loved it. So greetings to you all - and to my BC friend MyssCyn; our local bookcrossers will gather tonight for our meetup!)
Picked this one up at our October meeting, adding to my TBR shelf. At this meeting we had 13 BookCrossers.
