I wasn't supposed to be in The Works, Harrogate this morning! That didn't appear on my List of Things to Buy and Do - but somehow I came home with three Nicholas Bracewell novels set in the Elizabethan theatre by the highly-entertaining mystery writer, Edward Marston. Now how did that happen?

These novels don't fit neatly into any obvious category. Crime? Mysteries? Thrillers? Crimes are committed, usually murders, but they're only ever part of the story and sometimes seem quite peripheral to it. There's no mystery about what's going on and the reader normally knows the culprit/s, often more or less from the start. And there's never anything to keep you awake at night! Perhaps they're historical adventures? Whatever they are, I thoroughly enjoy them. They're highly-entertaining page-turners - and I have no idea why!
This time we have a dramatic fire, murder, robbery, plague, conspiracy, attempted murder .... all sorts of action .... and in the process we learn a lot more about Nick's childhood and youth in Barnstaple, Devon!
Great fun!

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

In the post!

Over a million people around the world give their books a unique BookCrossing IDentity number (BCID) before sending them out to find new readers. Since the start of the scheme in April 2001 well over 9 million such books have been put into circulation. This is one of them!
Our hope is that we can track the progress of our books once they've left our hands - and that's possible if finders like you visit the website, key in the BCID and leave a comment, however long or short. It's fun, it doesn't cost anything and you can remain anonymous if you wish. You don't have to join but if you do you'll be able to number and track your own books!

Thank you once again Nu-Knees. Apologies for the tardy journalling. I haven't trained our new postman properly yet! He took the package back to the sorting office!

Thanks also for the "very me" postcard.

Just noticed in your review that we learn about Nick's childhood in Barnstaple. Yet another place with a link to my personal history!

Another great read from the brilliant Edward Marston. This one involves a trip to Barnstaple in Devon. Another place in which I've lived.
