This is a crime novel about a series of gruesome murders based on Dante's Inferno and its account of Hell's punishments - and a very unlikely set of "investigators", a group of distinguished elderly members of the literary circle of the New World.
And it is also the story of the first translation of Dante's divina comedia in America, finished against threats of serious consequences to the professional as well as the personal lives of its authors.
And by the way - who wants one of those e-book readers, when you can hold a book like this in your hand while reading? I just love books crafted to match their contents...

I`d like to send this book on its way via book-ring according to following rules:

When you want to read the Dante Club, please send me a note and I will put you on the list of participants.

When you have read the book, send a message (via PM) to the next participant on the list and arrange the shipping. If you are no longer interestet in the book or your TBR-pile is too high just now, plesase tell me and I will remove your name or push it a little further down the list.

When the book arrives, please make an entry to let us all know it is now save with you.
Try to finish reading the book in a reasonable span of time (say, about two to four weeks)or tell us, if you should need a little longer (so we don't have to start worrying).

When you have finished reading, please make an entry here to tell us about your reading-experience, then contact the next participant on the list and arrange the shipping.

When the book eventually finds its way to me again, I hope it will be in good shape to start the next stage of its life, so, please, even if you don't like it, treat it well and protect it from flood, fire and inky fingers, like every true friend of books should.

Somehow the book seems to have lost ist way, but I got another copy (though from another, less beautiful Edition...) from a friend, so it will start to move again one of these days...

I loved reading this book. It took me a while to get into it but then I couldn't stop reading. The mixture of fact and fiction is fascinating, the characters well-drawn and I felt like I'm really pulled into the story.

This is the second book I have read in the last two months in which Dante's Divine Comedy is somehow closely related to the plot and I think it's time now for me to actually read it. Which might make me want to read The Dante Club again at some point, too.

Will pass it on as soon as I have an address. Thanks a lot for sharing it.

In my previous PM I told you that I started reading this book. I'm bavk already to tell you, that I'll be PMing BennyDE for their address.
I'm struggling to read, trying to find head or rail, but so far no luck. The consequence is, that I can't get into the book, that it doesn't capture me.

I'm sorry, it sounded so interesting!

I expected to receive some parcel for my family when I was ordered to the post-office today. But then it's this book just and only for me. I'm very happy it has arrived before Christmas. Thank you very much for sending it, Boekentrol (Büchertroll, right?).

Thank you bluewuzl for starting the ring again. I will start reading the book right away. :-)))

I've just finished reading the book and it was great. I really liked the characters, which were all (except for the mean ones of course) very likeable.

There were many different characters and it took me awhile to get to know them. I had trouble to understand who the author was writing about in the beginning. I nearly gave up but I'm really glad I didn't. As soon as I got into the story I felt I was becoming a part of it and the story became really exciting.

I'm sorry, but I can't write much about the story itself, because that would really spoil a lot. Everyone will have to read for himself. But I can say that it is worth it. I nearly couldn't stop in the end and I think I try that 'Poe-book' that is mentioned at the end of the book, written by Matthew Pearl too.

I already wrote a PM to ccardoso33 who hasn’t answered yet. If there is no reply should I try the next one on the list?

The Dante Club arrived in my mail today! Yay! I have to finish the book I'm on, but I'm almost done with it, so I'll start this one next. It came at just the right time...the Read-a-Thon is on right now, and I'm trying to get at least 12 hours in. Will update when I'm done.
