Bought at Dussmann last year (my colleagues gave me a 20Euro-birthday-voucher).
I remember that I read it within a few days (a page-turner)
but that I felt that the main character was a little too naive.

26-year old Lou begins working as a carer for 35-year-old Will, who is quadriplegic. In the beginning it is difficult, because Will is mentally and physically in bad state. Before his accident, he was extremely active, successful, athletic, sexy, now he is bedridden and completely dependent on outside help. For this reason, he wants to die and has contacted DIGNITAS (www.dignitas.ch). As time proceeds Lou and Willl are coping better and Lou tries to give him back the joy of life .
This sounds sentimental and it is in parts. Handkerchiefs are definitely needed. Still, I found the book really well. It is in parts very funny. It develops a story that does not only focus on the obvious.The main characters, especially Lou, the family members, the description of living in the small English town, many details make this book an exceptional reading enjoyment.
I would say that the book is definitely worth reading.

Die siebenundzwanzigjährige Lou beginnt als Pflegerin bei dem vom Hals abwärts fast vollständig gelähmten Will zu arbeiten. Anfangs ist es schwierig, denn Will ist ausgesprochen missmutig und es geht ihm einfach schlecht. Vor seinem Unfall war er extrem aktiv, beruflich erfolgreich, sportlich, sexy, nun ist er bettlägrig und völlig auf fremde Hilfe angewiesen. Aus diesem Grund möchte er sterben und hat Kontakt zu DIGNITAS (www.dignitas.ch) aufgenommen. Mit der Zeit kommen Lou und Willl besser zurecht und Lou versucht, Will umzustimmen und ihm die Freude am Leben zurückzugeben.
Das hört sich kitschig an und ist es auch in Teilen. Taschentücher braucht man auf jeden Fall. Trotzdem fand ich das Buch wirklich gut. Es ist streckenweise sehr lustig. Es bleibt auch nicht bei der Geschichte Wills stehen. Auch Lou hat etwas Bedrückendes erlebt, was mich sehr traurig gemacht hat. Überhaupt ist Lou wunderbar dargestellt. Die Familienmitglieder, das Leben in der englischen Kleinstadt, viele Details machen das Buch zu einem außergewöhnlichen Lesegenuß.
Ich würde sagen, dass das Buch definitiv lesenswert ist.
