The tale of Jesus and Christ re-told by Phillip Pullman in a very personal way. Thought provoking.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
This book was in the Alphabet VBB for the letter G. But it was not in there for long, because Icily chose it when it was her turn.
So now it will soon be on its way. I read it, and enjoyed moments of it, but looking back it is not one of my favourite books.
I wonder what Icila will think of it!

On its way to Romania. Enjoy !
Safely received with thanks :)
I aim this to be a very short stop, as I already know who I'd like to read it next.

"And from time to time, to distract the people from their miseries and fire them with anger against someone else, the governors of this church will declare that such-and-such a nation or such-and-such a people is evil and ought to be destroyed, and they'll gather great armies and set off to kill and burn and loot and rape and plunder, and they'll raise their standard over the smoking ruins of what was once a fair and prosperous land and declare that God's Kingdom is so much the larger and more magnificent as a result."
It took a while for the story to get to me, but when it did, I was completely caught. At first, I had the feeling that it had very little to add to the big ol' story; once I realized where it was going, I started to really appreciate it. The monologue in Gethsemane was fantastic. Fiction aside, I mostly adhere to the author's world view.
Thank you so much for sharing :) Keep an eye on this book, it will hitch a train ride to Mainz!

I was given this book directly because it js on my wishlist. Thank you for thinking of me and have a nice convention:-)
This book was travelling with me through Copenhagen to Malmö where I finished reading it.
First I did not understand why Pullman was called blasphemic (but I am very slow in understanding those things) but towards the end and after reading the afterword I got an idea why people could think that.
I liked reading this version of an old story and thought the afterword was unnecessary. He didn’t have to explain.

I will take this book to a bookcrossing meet up in Wetzlar, Germany this evening.
...nobody was interested, so I brought the book back home with me.
