Okay this book was good, really good!
I must say I got a bit teary when her grandmother appeared.
Also I would have to agreed with Ryan's 'fires', it just fits perfectly, in a sadistic sort of way
;-)

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

The book is a page turner, I was not disappointed. The evil character was evil, without redemption; his manor house was seriously creepy. After he died I kept imagining him coming back to life, but by the end after the appropriate disposal of his body, that seemed very unlikely. I did not like the way Nicolas kept secrets to himself, such as the shoplifter. So arrogant. I agreed with Juliet's reaction to this behaviour. Mora did have a right to know.

I will get this in the post to Mozette.

ADDED: 11/4/2013 Posted today.

Boy! I'm slack! Nah, not really, I have had the busiest week this side of Sunday, and today has been the first day I've been able to journal the book. It arrived 3 days ago and I haven't had the energy or time to get in an journal because I've had to be out at the doctors, shopping or on a date.... please accept my apologies.

I did start reading it on Thursday and haven't put it down. A couple of the characters have the same name (I mean who would name their twins Tom and Tommy?). Otherwise, I was pulled into the book and its story immediately. I'm looking forward to what happens next!

Journal Entry 9 by carelaisa at Québec, Québec Canada on Monday, July 22, 2013
the book finally got here! (thanks Mozette for the note and lovely postcard).

I will read the book in the coming weeks... Thanks Sfogs for sharing it with us.

Journal Entry 10 by carelaisa at Québec, Québec Canada on Tuesday, August 20, 2013
I don’t know what to say about this book. It’s a mystery novel, yet the “mystery” part can be taken in two different ways. First, mystery as a death unsolved and secondly, mystery as the past that inhabits the island (its history about witches). But to say it’s a crime novel would be stretching the whole thing. On the whole, I found it average as I felt it took a long time for something to happen and get to the unsolved death. The author is promising and I do hope he will get better with time, because otherwise it will always be average books. I don’t want to sound harsh but I’ve read better debut novels.

EDIT 24/09: I have contacted Lilyklip a few days ago and asked to be skipped (too busy at the moment). Will contact the other in line.

EDIT 03/10: The book is now travelling to Andrasthe, via surface mail.

The book arrived safely. It has an interesting smell though - somewhat spicy?

This is another book that has just "come out" from one of my last packing boxes after I moved home.
Will read it next, and contact LilyKlip for her address.
Thanks for sharing; and sorry for stalling so long.

Journal Entry 14 by wingBookworm-ladywing at Madrid, Madrid Spain on Tuesday, May 17, 2016
I took a long time to finish reading it, and I have mixed feelings.
I think that the writer takes a long time setting the characters and settings for future instances of this series; this is a current trend, and I'm afraid that results are not always good.
The first part was promising, but I didn't like the episode at the house, which I found quite far-fetched. And I just could not bear the final chapter, with Juliet's grandmother appearing out of the blue.
I won't be looking for any other novels in this series, I'm afraid.
However, here is a quote I liked; something said by Juliet to her friend Rowena:
"Things don't happen for a reason. They just happen. The only things that make a difference are hard work, determination, trying your best. If you want to do well, that is."
I could not agree more...
Soon to continue its stalled travels, this time to Germany.

The book arrived in Germany today. Perfect timing as well. Just finished another on. So, this one is next.

Thank you for the ring Sfogs, and thank you, Bookworm-lady for sending it and your nice little note ;-)
____________

edit 12/06: I'm sorry to say that this is one of the worst books I have read in a while. I totally agree with Bookworm-lady. The first part was ok but from the moment they arrived at Aldrich's house this just got seriously ridiculous - even for a mystery novel where I don't expect too much realism. Starting from Juliet and Nick just accepting their "abilities" when every sane person would question their sanity, everyone's behaviour at Grendel Manor, Aldritch himself and then - as Bookworm-lady already mentioned - Juliet's grandmother suddenly turning up out of the blue - it's just all a bit too much (or too little). I found the characters badly drawn, the writing below average, the story weak and what is it with the stupid paragraphs?

Thank you anyway for the ring. I'll pass it on as soon as possible.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to agree with lillyklip, this is a terrible book, very poorly written, poor plot and storyline, unlikable and unrealistic character. I gave up half way through this book it was that bad
