I've enjoyed (and cringed at!) several works by Junji Ito, including Gyo and Uzumaki, Spiral Into Horror, so I went looking for this series. Found this fair-condition softcover online, along with Volume One.

This volume opens with a mental patient escaping - turns out he's the teacher on whose watch Tomie first died, way back at the beginning of the first book. Then we catch up with Tomie, who's currently having fun messing with the mind of a young girl who's awaiting a kidney transplant; she tries to convince her that her boyfriend's lost interest in her, and in general to make her wretched. Intriguingly enough, the escaped teacher has a role to play in the ensuing events, which get very twisted indeed.

There's also a story about a hapless painter who thinks Tomie is the perfect model - but his paintings show a bit too much of her true nature, and she is not pleased... And then there's the girl who comes across a box of lustrous dark hair that seems to grow by itself, and implants it in her own head - any guesses as to how this will work out? The last story has a wealthy old couple seeking a young girl to adopt (though, oddly enough, all the previous girls they've adopted have died). Then they find a lovely young girl lying in their yard in the rain... Will Tomie finally find a place to settle down - and if so, at what cost? Some nice scheming in this one - and of course the obligatory splatter scenes {grin}. (Some of the illustrations are thoroughly horrifying, while others are so over the top that they're practically funny - in a nightmarish sort of way. Still, probably not for the easily spooked!)

[There's a TV Tropes page for the manga.]

It turns out that I really didn't care for the first volume of Tomie so I won't bother to read this one.
