I found this fair-condition softcover at the Book Cellar; it contains an assortment of "gaslight"-era crime stories, from authors including O. Henry and E. W. Hornung. Some of the tales are a bit dated, but I enjoyed the collection overall, and I liked the (often extensive) biographical information on each author.
Some of my favorite stories include:
"The Episode of the Diamond Links" by Grant Allen, which features the anti-hero and expert thief Colonel Clay.
E. W. Hornung's "Nine Points of the Law", while not my favorite of the Raffles stories, is still very, very entertaining, and demonstrates the tricky relationship between Raffles and his reluctant and guilt-ridden sidekick Bunny.
"A Comedy on the Gold Coast" by Arnold Bennett is a rather light-hearted romance featuring a pair of rogues.
"The Diamond Spy" by William Hope Hodgson surprised me, as I'm more familiar with his supernatural tales; this one features a rather tricky diamond heist.
Sinclair Lewis' "The Willow Walk" involves a very clever scheme that doesn't quite go as intended, with a very surprising resolution.
And there's plenty more, including entries by O. Henry and Edgar Wallace. Intriguing collection!
