Blurb:
This is the journal of Cassandra Mortmain; an extraordinary account of life with her extraordinary family. First, there is her eccentric father. Then there is her sister, Rose - beautiful, vain and bored - and her stepmother, Topaz, an artist's model who likes to commune with nature. Finally, there is Stephen, dazzlingly handsome and hopelessly in love with Cassandra.
In the cold and crumbling castle which is their home, Cassandra records events with characteristic honesty, as she tries to come to terms with her own feelings. The result is both marvellously funny and genuinely moving.

RABCK for you!

Journal Entry 3 by wingDiane-Fraserwing at Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear United Kingdom on Monday, February 4, 2013
Hubbie picked this up from the post office today. When I opened it I was so excited, as well as the book there was loads of bookcrossing labels- great start to the new year for me. My granddaughters got their fingers in there too and I nearly lost the chocs :) The youngest ran off with the fortune cookie and when I retrieved it from her it was in two pieces - we shared with her sister.

Thank you so much for the RABCK me and the girls had a great time and I still have the book to read!!

ETA 22/05/13 I am taking this on holiday and hope to read and release whilst there
ETA 02/06/13 Planned read & release did not happen :(

I really liked this book ApoloniaX and thank you once agin for sending it to me. I loved how it is narrated in the form of a journal but I forgot and got lost in the story of this family and their lives.

This has been picked from my Shrinking VBB and will be on the move again shortly

This sounds so much better than the shortened copy that I have at home, which is meant for students. This looks like books should look like and I look forward to the read. Thanks Diane-Fraser for sending!

I've finished it and liked it. Not as much as other people, but I did found it an entertaining read. I too loved the journal form. I imagined what would happen with this family when the Second World War would come knocking on their door.
I've sent ReallyBookish a PM, because he had it on his wishlist. Going there next.

Hey, such a well-travelled book! I know nothing about it, but I really liked the cover so I took it home with me from the Meeting.

Dutch-book kind of liked it. That means that I will either like it too, or I will absolutely hate it;-)

Journal Entry 10 by wingHendrickjewing at Amsterdam, Noord-Holland Netherlands on Thursday, October 31, 2019
I really loved the book. It is very suspenseful and the characters are very well depicted.

I would have liked another ending though. Still, the ending could have been worse, as I was suspecting for a long time it would be, so in the end I'm OK with the way it turned out...
