"The Corrections is a grandly entertaining novel for the new century - a comic, masterpiece about a family breaking down in an age of easy fixes..."

Great story - entertaining and poignant!

Hi! I'm Sunny, visiting QLD for a few days, & dropped into the Rendezvous Cafe in Toowoomba today for a coffee on my way back to Brisbane from staying with friends in Kingaroy. Tomorrow (Tues 9/12) I head back home to country Victoria, taking with me 'The Corrections'. Can't comment on it yet as I haven't started reading it! But I think the whole idea of BookCrossing is fantastic! Cheers, Sunny 8/12/03

I came by this book by default ... I stopped in at the Rendezvous Cafe with a friend from Victoria, who was going to take The Corrections & release it down south ......... however, she left it behind. So I've read it & will either release it here in Brisbane, or ask my sister Helen (who is going to visit me soon) to release it in Hobart.
I found the book hard to get into initially, and there were sections that were too convoluted to follow, as the stories of all members of the family, & a few hangers-on, unfolded.
However the descriptions of Alfred's mental & physical state as he was slowly, then rapidly, taken over by parkinson's disease, really gave an insight into how frightening it must be to gradually lose touch with reality, and how the mind must struggle to make sense, of sensory information that is increasingly unreliable.
So ... I found the book initially hard to get into, but by the last third, was unable to put it down.
The whole BookCrossing idea is wonderful, & I'm very happy to support it.

'The Corrections' was left behind by a friend who was visiting Brisbane. She had picked it up at the Rendezvous Cafe in Toowoomba. I have passed the book on to my sister from Hobart (I notice there are no Meetups there as yet). Like me, she loves the idea of BookCrossing & intends to participate.
I found 'The Corrections' to be hard to get into initially, but absorbing thereafter. The descriptions of the father, fighting a losing battle to hold onto reality as parkinsons disease progressively takes over his mind and body, is rivetting, if depressing. Worth a read!

When visiting family in Brisbane, I was delighted to be introduced to BookCrossing - I think it's great! This book was passed on to me, and I have brought it back home to Hobart to read. All up, I found it quite thought-provoking but rather lumbering in writing style. Descriptions of experiences from the first-hand perspective of different characters were insightful and at times moving. Many parts in the first half of the book were annoyingly verbose and I found myself skipping chunks of text to get on with the story. However the development of some of the characters, especially Alfred, and Denise, was sensitively done towards the end. The book takes a lot of getting into but is mostly worth the effort.
29 January 2004 - released to a friend at State Cinema, Elixabeth St, Hobart.

I haven't read it yet, but a friend in Hobart gave it to me.. I think it had been in his house for a while and he was keen to pass it on. So I have brought it back to Adelaide where it continues it's epic journey :) Enjoy!
