About the book:
Mr. and Mrs. Fang called it art.

Their children called it mischief.

Performance artists Caleb and Camille Fang dedicated themselves to making great art. But when an artist’s work lies in subverting normality, it can be difficult to raise well-adjusted children. Just ask Buster and Annie Fang. For as long as they can remember, they starred (unwillingly) in their parents’ madcap pieces. But now that they are grown up, the chaos of their childhood has made it difficult to cope with life outside the fishbowl of their parents’ strange world.

When the lives they’ve built come crashing down, brother and sister have nowhere to go but home, where they discover that Caleb and Camille are planning one last performance–their magnum opus–whether the kids agree to participate or not. Soon, ambition breeds conflict, bringing the Fangs to face the difficult decision about what’s ultimately more important: their family or their art.

My opinion:
This book was the book for the month of October 2012 in our English Bookclub here in Leipzig. To be honest - it wasn't my choice from the beginning and I found it really weird reading. I didn't finish the book until now, because I didn't want to start a new book the last two days of the year so I finished reading this one.
Personally, I don't think this book is a comedy (as it is advertised in some reviews) I don't even think of it as remote funny.
For me it's a story of two parents who sabotaged the life of their children (they call Child A and Child B not Annie & Buster) from the beginning when making them take place in their "art pieces", willing or not.
The children break free eventually but they are completely messed up, and when their parents are off for their last and most spectacular piece of performance "art" they keep going because they can rely on eachother for support. I felt sorry for Annie and Buster and somehow I was hoping, that Caleb and Camille are really dead...
This was really one piece of weird writing and not really my piece of cake.
