I was really disappointed with this novel. I quite enjoyed it to start with but had to read it really slowly (704 pages) as style of writing was quite dense but in the end I just found the whole book much too ponderous. It was all about hunting for Dracula's tomb and had The Historian travelling around most of Eastern Europe trying to hunt him down.
Not the Count Dracula of Bram Stoker's novel but the real Vlad the Impaler, Vlad Drakulya or Vlad Tepes, Vlad iii (he was called a number of things!). An evil tyrant from Transylvania who fought the Ottoman empire in the 15th century. I'm not really a lover of vampire stories and although this book was layered in historical facts I just can't be doing with reading about the blood sucking undead!
I was seduced into buying this book after hearing rapturous praise for this novel by Twiggy who was being interviewed on the radio. She stated it was the most fantastic and terrifying book she had ever read (or something to that effect). It just didn't do it for me.

Found the book on a bench by the sea. Thought I would try reading it. Not heard of book crossing before.
