Bought at the second hand English book stall in the market. It comes highly recommended as a cracking good story, with Canadiana and history.

13th December - I forgot to release this once I had it safely in the parcel and on its way to Knaresborough. Happy Christmas Nu-Knees.

Thank you very much, bluenoser, for today's Christmas parcel with Christmas greetings - much appreciated! We don't have ice and snow, not as yet anyway, and I'm not really expecting the UK to get the sort of conditions depicted on this lovely cover picture, but everywhere was white with a thick layer of frost when the postman came this morning!

This is rattling good yarn of devastation and tragedy in the snowy wastes of the Arctic, interspersed with a life-or-death struggle in Cambridge - a real page-turner that kept me well-entertained among the busyness of the Christmas festivities! There's a lot going on, mostly telling of a Victorian expedition lost and starving in the wintry wilderness and the family and friends of a couple of present-day historians who became obsessed with what happened to Franklin ....
Thank you, bluenoser!

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

Given to my sister-in-law (JM) during a lovely weekend visiting family!

Over a million people around the world give their books a unique BookCrossing IDentity number (BCID) before sending them out to find new readers. Since the start of the scheme in April 2001 well over 9 million such books have been put into circulation. This is one of them!
Our hope is that we can track the progress of our books once they've left our hands - and that's possible if finders like you visit the website, key in the BCID and leave a comment, however long or short. It's fun, it doesn't cost anything and you can remain anonymous if you wish. You don't have to join but if you do you'll be able to number and track your own books!

So, my mum is computer illiterate, she picked up the book in a coffee shop in Cardiff, South Wales brought it as light reading on a visit to her son Daniel, that's me, in Canada. I read it when my mum left it for me to pass on. I really enjoyed it, I'm an R.N so I understood the anaemia angle and I have always enjoyed the Arctic explorers Scott and Amundsen, Shackleton, Ross and others, including modern explorers like Ranulph Fiennes. my boarding school had a Shackleton sled on the wall of the library. So I have enjoyed my own treck with literature, feeling the polar winds and shivering without ever feeling cold. I will certainly pass this great read on its own epic journey
