"The Awakening shocked turn-of-the-century readers with its forthright treatment of sex and suicide." Jolly good.
I read The Awakening only, eventually, after many interruptions. I found it beautifully written, but I was annoyed with the ending. It seemed too abrupt, an unlikely overreaction. I wonder if the author would have preferred to write a different, happier or more neutral ending but felt that that would be too scandalous.
I will pass this on to Heaven-Ali, who is interested in the Other Stories, at the next meetup.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
I enjoyed this book very much as it was my first introduction to Kate Chopin's work. A remarkable novel considering that it was written over a century ago. Set in Louisiana, these early ideas of women's rights were not well received by many. Recommended and thanks to the inital Bookcrossing releaser. I hope someone else finds this book and finds it as interesting. Left in the lounge of the Bowling Green Inn, where the books are at the end wall, on the left hand side shelves.
