From the back:
"This is a story about a mother, two daughters, and two dogs. This was supposed to be a story of how Chinese parents are better at raising kids than Western ones. But instead, it's about a bitter clash of cultures, a fleeting taste of glory, and how I was humbled by a thirteen-year-old."

I was expecting a disturbing read and was pleasantly surprised as it really wasn't. Chua's parenting principles (and life principles in general) are disturbing for sure, but luckily she has written the book with enough self-mockery to make it a light read instead. I feel very bad for her, though, for seemingly not being able to enjoy life at all.
