An amusing read. I enjoyed it. Despite this it was a little worrying that this is a book aimed at children and the subliminal message it conveys. Men find the food; they are the providers, women prepare it. Woman weaken easily. In reality it is the female fox that would hunt and feed her young, but in this story she stays at home and Mr Fox brings home the food. As it would be the female foxes that feed their young, it should have been 'Fantastic Mrs. Fox'.”
It is a children's book. They might not be able to sort truth from fiction, and attitudes such as in this story can contribute to how the world and the individual's place in the family is seen.
PS. Foxes eat rabbits; not invite them to share food at dinner.

Picked up from the book table at the Queenstown uncon.
The film version was on TV recently, so I was interested to read this to see how they compare (answer: they're quite different, though the film does capture the mood of the book well).
It's a fun wee story, typical of Dahl's children's books.
