I do enjoy Donna Leon's Brunetti mysteries. I've only read a handful so far but I've enjoyed them all. I just love the setting ... Venice ..... sigh! She does give one an insight into what it is like to live there. This book was hard to put down for it moved really quickly. Parts of it were most amusing. I had to put it down though, for there are always interruptions but it was read fairly quickly, all within a couple of days.

Thanks Carole888.

cover:
When Commissario Guido Brunetti is visited by a young bureaucrat investigating the lack of official approval for the building of his apartment years earlier, his first reaction, like any other Venetian, is to think of whom he knows who might bring pressure to bear on the relevant government department. But when the bureaucrat rings Brunetti at work, clearly scared, and is then found dead after a fall from scaffolding, something is obviously going on that has implications greater than the fate of Brunetti's apartment ...

Such a difficult place to live, Venice. So many layers of petty authority, & so many backhanders. I do like Brunetti, he's such a human character, & I could feel his frustrations, particularly over Patta's son's drug involvement. I like his solution to the zitella nobile Dolfin - scandal would be horrifying to her.

The plot is still up-to-date, I think, but it's incredible how the technology has evolved in a few years !
Anyway I was happy to read this book that I had missed in the series.
