This lucky book has been chosen to become part of the 2013 Birthday Rabck celebration! :)
It has been sitting on this BC'er's list for far too long so I decided they should get the chance to read it! I hope it lives up to your expectations! :D

Thank you so much, HI77, for this wishlist book that has indeed been on there for a while! I feel so spoiled by the kindness and generosity of this birthday group! I sure do look forward to reading it (and love the label as well!).
This was compelling reading. A question of identity, a love story, a mystery all in one. And a couple characters whose neck I might not mind wringing. Not everything is wrapped up neatly at the end, which could bother some readers, but the part I was most interested in is made quite clear, since there is a sequel (in fact, it’s a trilogy, this being the first). [The second takes place in Paris during the terrible 1910 flood, so I’ll certainly seek it out.]
ETA 1/31/18: I had to skip a couple pages that described the brutal killing of a little dog. :-( . It wasn't gratuitous violence; it illustrated just how evil one of the characters is.
Amazon:
New England, 1887. The millionaire William Knight is brutally murdered and the only witness is his grandchild, Richard, who himself disappears, and is presumed dead. Eighteen years later, Richard is "recognized" in Switzerland in the person of Alexander von Reisden, and William Knight's only son, Gilbert, is convinced that this man is the long lost child. Reisden, himself, has no memory of any childhood, and his own growing obsession with finding the real Richard is leading him closer to a shattering truth. And to a killer, still at large....
