Released 10 yrs ago (2/17/2014 UTC) at Surprise, A RABCK -- Controlled Releases
CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
Sending this out to surprise another BCer, eponine38, with a wishlist book.
My comments: Once I picked this up, I could not put it down. This is the second in the Burkholder series and I am really enjoying the series so far. The story line has lots of twists and turns and just when you think you know who did it, you discover yet another twist. While the story pulled at my heartstrings, without giving away the plot, justice prevails. Looking forward to reading the rest of the series.Happy Reading and Happy BookCrossing!

I'm so sorry I forgot to journal this when received quite some time ago. :-(
I lent it to a friend who is also reading this series. I look forward to reading it when she returns it!

I couldn't put this down either! I found it much more gruesome and bleak than the earlier one in the series, Sworn to Silence, but still an absolute page-turner. Perhaps as a mostly "cozy" reader I'm more sensitive to violence? ;-) (Or maybe I just have a poor memory for detail? :-). I don't want to give the plot away so won't go into detail, but I recommend this read as long as you're forewarned!
As in the first book, I find the background on the Amish way of life and its sometimes clashes with the "English" fascinating. Especially since the detective, Kate Burkholder, grew up Amish herself but left. She can see both sides.
Still look forward to reading the next installment, Breaking Silence, and wonder what is in store!
Thank you again for sharing this with me, dvg!
ETA: Reserved for bookstogive's Mystery/Thriller/Suspense VBB.
