Detective Inspector Logan McRae is finally getting back on his feet after the events of the last few years. Putting things behind him. Getting better...But it was never going to last. A body turns up on the outskirts of Aberdeen: burned from the neck up, hands chained behind the back. More murders follow - all gruesome, and with only one obvious connection. The similarities between the real-life killings and the plot of a bestselling novel about witchcraft seem more than coincidental, but the more Logan digs the more dangerous and blurred the line between fact and fiction becomes. It's a small step from police officer to victim. And somebody's got to take it, or everyone will die.

A treat from me to me :o) Can't wait to read it....

I can hardly believe I'm going to say this but I was disappointed with this book. I've been a huge fan of this series but this tale was spoiled by Steel. I loved her in "Blind Eye" (see below) but my suspicions have come true (see "Dark Blood" also below!) & because the constant "wisecracks" are far too frequent they're just annoying rather than amusing. We know Steel's a sex-mad lesbian but do we really need her reminding us with puerile sexual innuendo every few pages? Personally I think not....

That aside, the story was good enough but I found it a bit messy in parts with a lot going on making it confusing (though I was right about Samantha)I won't be giving up on the series but I hope Steel is toned down in future.

Reviews of the series so far:
1. Cold Granite
2.Dying Light
3. Broken Skin
4. Flesh House
5.Blind Eye
6. Dark Blood
7. Shatter the Bones
