Sweet and Deadly

As Publishers Weekly: "Introducing an author of rare talents, this mystery is set in a small town on the Mississippi Delta that Harris makes excitingly real."
It has characters that have certain messages or secrets.
It has been a long time since I have gone to the Potbelly's in downtown Evanston. I was happy to see that the bookshelf was still there (though I miss the old one they used to have rather than the small one that's odd to get up to by the window). I picked this up after dropping a book off on the shelves. Has it been there since 2014? I hope not!
Amazon Editorial Review
While investigating the suspicious death of her parents six months earlier, Catherine Linton discovers that someone in the town of Lowfield, Mississippi, wants the truth buried forever when she finds the dead body of her late father's longtime nurse. Original.

I wasn't fond of the Sookie Stackhouse books by this author. However, the more other books I read by her the more I like her writing. This was a fantastic murder mystery. I was pulled into the story, and could not put the book down until I found out who the killer was. Thanks for setting this free into the world mssaver. I don't know that I would have picked it up because of my dislike of the other series I had read of hers. But because I found it on the bookshelf at Potbelly's and the back blurb was so intriguing I had to read it. I just wish I hadn't waited so long to do so :)

Sending to dancing-dog for her birthday. Happy Birthday!
This sounds pretty good - we'll give it a go. Thanks Nim!
A quick, entertaining read but I think the story needed a little work - I had trouble believing the murderer's motive. This was the first book Charlaine Harris wrote back in 1981.
