. . . so I'm in Goodwill, looking for contemporary fiction to help supplement a library in Ukraine, when I see the binding of this book. It's actually not "in" a bookshelf; it's on top of the short shelves, and it looks like it's in pretty good condition. I think this would probably fit right in for what I'm looking for, but for some reason, I don't pick it up yet. I'm also on the hunt for a copy of Fried Green Tomatoes for another bookcrosser, but that's another story.

My bag is filling up rapidly (faster than usual, actually), so when I go to the other side of the short shelves, I decide I am close to having enough. Then I look up. What do I see? A little red stamp on the edge of the pages of this book, and OHMYWORD! It's the little running book! WEEEE-HAAAAWWW! WOO HOO! Oh happy day! I just found my very first EVER book "in the wild"! I've never gone hunting; I've never happened across one at a mall or the grocery store or the Post Office. This is the most amazing feeling EVER! I actually got butterflies!

I *v*e*r*y* carefully picked it up (like it was going to explode or something), and then I gingerly opened the front cover. Yes, it's a for real, honest-to-goodness BookCrossing book, complete with a bookplate from before I joined -- Bookplate #4 "Forgotten Lore" -- and a BCID and everything :)

Z3Mutti -- I have no idea how this book got from Michigan to Colorado, but I'll take good care of it :) And thanks for releasing my first catch!

(in case you're wondering, I honestly don't know if I can let this one go to Ukraine before reading!)

So I had every intention of writing a brilliant and insightful book review on this book. However, it was book #70 of 2007, and I'm now on book #58 of 2008, and frankly it's not going to happen. Thus, I want to get this book out into the world and moving again.

I will say this -- it was fascinating, and I think I appreciated it more after my book club read the famous On Cold Blood. I remember that it was riveting, and I didn't want to put it down. The jury selection, in particular, was fascinating, and kept me on the edge of my seat. Ever since I read this book, I've been trying to decide if I want to watch the movie or not. The book was so good, I don't really want to taint it, but it was also intriguing enough that I think the movie will be interesting. Who knows?

Anyway, this book is going into my to-be-released pile, and I hope it finds another fascinated reader.

Ha! I never released it ... which is good, because now I can lend it to a friend who likes true crime books :)

Putting it by the door for the next time book club meets.
