6 out of 10

I bought this book when I was 11. It kept me up all night, in fearful curiosity, urging me to finish it. It was a well-written book and it did keep me hooked...but it was FREAKY. My mind kept asking, What kind of messed-up parents would do such a thing? I would classify it as a "disturbing YA sci-fi" and although it did suck me in, I don't think I would want to read it again because that first experience was so scary.

Here's the back cover summary:
Thirteen-year-old Eva wakes up in the hospital unable to remember anything since the picnic on the beach. Her mother leavs over the bed and begins to explain. A traffic accident, a long coma...

But there is something, Eva senses, she is not being told, some other price she must pay to be alive at all. What have they done, with their amazing medical techniques to save her?

Recieved today. I also read this many years ago and loved it, it always stuck in my mind. I wanted to find it and re-read but couldn't remember the name or author for ages, until I stumbled accidentaly across it on the internet and added it to my wishlist. Am really looking forward to re-reading. Thank you, GuinevereII for fulfilling my wish!

Lovely! I enjoyed re-reading this story more than I expected to, a great YA book with an interesting look at the world. Remembering this book I have looked at some other's by the same author and will now definately be picking another one up.

I will see if I can get any interest for a bookray with this one.

Realy enjoyed this book, different to anything i've read before, just could not put it down. The story is set in the future, when a girl is involed in a car crash that in most cases would of been fatel. But throught modern science and somthing else she survives. But all is not as it seems as they slowley wake her up. Keeps you going to the end to see what happens.

Will be sent on as part of bookray.

Warsaw/Poland - Just got it today! I'll try to read it ASAP. I've got exams now so things are hectic, but it doesn't look like it will take me that long. Thanks for the postcard cart-ref!

Warsaw/Poland - Ooooh...pretty grim look at our future as humans. I think the scariest part is that it seems so realistic, well, that's what scared me. Eva was a great character although she seemed older than they said she was. I'm not sure that any 13 years olds I know would react as rationally and logically to her situation as she did. That was about the only fault I could find though. Overall a REALLY interesting read, makes you wonder about modern science and where exactly we are going as a species. Scary stuff...

I'll be sending this off to axelp with Goodnight, Mister Tom soon. Enjoy!

Paynesville/MN/USA - Sent this on, along with Goodnight Mister Tom, yesterday by surface mail. It may take awhile to get there. I'm so sorry that I didn't get it sent from Poland but there just wasn't time.

Thanks for including me in the bookring!

Received it today from Axel. Thanks also for the nice postcard.
One good thing about Cyprus having entered the EU is that the post in the EU countries is much faster, which is great for receiving and sending books :-)
Will journal it again once I've read it and then send it on to the next in the ray.

It was an interesting read, although I might be the only one here but I couldn't actually finish the book. The beginning was very interesting and kind of to my taste, but about the middle it got into things that I felt creepy about, so I stopped reading it. I have sent it to today to the next in the ray, hope it arrives there soon.

It has just arrived, thanks Kislany - and I loved the stamps. There are no other rings/rays in the house right now, so I will start reading it at once. The dedication seems interesting enough, Jane Goodall, hmm?

6 out of 10

I just finished it and had it shipped it to lorit 5 ( whose adress I got yesterday) is now on its bookrate way to America, should take some 3 or 4 weeks to arrive.

About the book, hmm, don´t know quite what to say. It felt quite dated, sf in the style of Flowers for Algernon or something, and the society really was unconvincing, it had some trappings of far in the future, but it did not show in much details unrelated to what happened to EVA or the supercrowding. I guess despite all this is really a exterior-to-character moved novel, and since the setting was not all that convicing to me, that flawed my appreciation of the book. Still very interesting, many thanks for the bookray Deerskin and GuinevereII
