from back of cover:
Alice Nestleton, beautiful off-off Broadway actress-turned-amateur detective, has been forced into a life of crime-sleuthing that is-with some cat-sitting on the side. But this hot summer in New Yor she has taken a hiatus from stage and scene-of-the-crime to join a coterie of cat-lovers in cultivating a Manhattan herb garden. Unfortunately, a party to celebrate their first crop of peppermint ends with one of their group going right off the edge-of a 25th floor terrace. Alice is tunned and grief stricken at the apparent suicide. But aided and abetted by her two cats, she soon smells a rat. And with the help of her own feline-like instincts, the gorgeous gumshoe discovers that the victim's dearest friends may well have been her most murderous enemies.

Great mystery story for cat lovers! I read it in one sitting (partly because I was at home sick, partly because I didn't want to put it down).

Like I mentioned elsewhere, I've been reading books about cats fairly often lately. This one was the second in two in a row. It was short and overall it was alright. I have an overall lukewarm feeling to the book only because I was reading along avidly looking for the clues as I always do when I know I'm reading a mystery book when suddenly the "amateur detective" broke a cardinal rule of Miss Marple and other such ladies and got involved heavily in the situation. One moment I was reading a book from a somewhat objective P.O.V. and next thing I know I've fallen into a soap opera. I left soap operas behind back in h.s. so I tend to roll my eyes at them these days. Other than that, well, I figured out the "how" but the "who" was somewhat totally out of left field, so I don't think anyone would have ever guessed it or the "why."

Back it goes to the husband, Morphy.

Note: The husband decided not to read it. I'm releasing it instead.
