I picked this up in a charity shop as I have read part of the number 1 ladies detective agency series and thought I might enjoy this one.

I really enjoyed this book. It is well written and researched and added a little to my knowledge of the issues around WW2. I liked the characters and it was believable. A good story, well written

Thank you for the books and supplies, I look foraward to reading them. Merry Christmas and a happy new year :-)
6 Nov 16 - If you want a book about orchestras than this maybe isn't the book for you, that part of the storyline is a fairly small part of the book. What you actually get is a story of a young lady who loses her husband and moves to a small village at the start of the war. Although she wasn't in the thick of things she still does a bit of volunteer work on a farm and helps to set up the orchestra. It looks at the suspicion that must have been around at the time of anyone new, or of comments that seem out of place. Overall an enjoyable quick read.

Merry Christmas from your Secret Santa :-)
Thank you Santa! I look Alexander McCall Smith's books and I haven't read this one. Really looking forward to this one.
Thank you also for the other book, the chocolate pennies and the Maltesers and Wispa chocolate drinks and last but not least that lovely key ring.
Sorry it took so long to acknowledge your wonderful parcel but I have been away at my parents' house.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Just the book I needed right now, having had to start a new job, which seems to take up my entire life, including my breakfast reading time, which used to set me up for the day.
A nice light easy read, just what I would expect from a McCall Smith novel.
Mrs Deltic is now going to read it.
