This was kindly sent to me by a friend who occasionally BookCrosses as billtortoise but rarely registers her books on BookCrossing so that honour falls to me. Thank you very much, lass! She'd previously sent me the previous novel featuring Giordano Bruno, Heresy
which proved to be a page-turner! I'm delighted to continue with this fascinating series.

This second Giordano Bruno Elizabethan adventure takes place in the Autumn of 1583.
For reference, other useful dates I've checked now I've started reading this novel are:
1587 The execution of Mary Queen of Scots
1588 The Spanish Armada

Our Italian hero, heretic, philosopher and spy, lives at the French Embassy and uses his position there to learn all he can about Catholic plots to put Mary Stuart on the throne of England in place of Elizabeth. Fear and suspicion is fuelled by prophecies, pamphlets and tales of signs and portents in the skies! And two young girls at court are found murdered with astrological symbols carved into their bodies .... It's all very alarming!

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
Heading across the Channel to bluenoser!
A lovely surprise that I found in my letterbox when I came home from the market today. I really enjoyed the first in this Elizabethan mystery series. A special thank you to Nu-Knees for sending this on to me.
Another really enjoyable historical mystery, set in Elizabeth I's reign.
This series reminds me very much of C. J. Sansom's series featuring his hunchback lawyer and set in Henry VIII's time. They are full of action, life as lived in the period and great characters. It's interesting to note that the heroes in both series, Matthew and Bruno, both have handicaps that affect their jobs and lives - Matthew Shardlake is a hunchback and Giordano Bruno is a runaway Italian monk. Thanks to Nu-Knees for introducing me and RABCKing me both "Heresy" and "Prophecy"
