CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
Am putting this into my "Another CD-Only AudioBookBox" for round two! Hope this finds a good home!
I've loved her other books so am glad to find this one in the box. Thanks so much for sharing!
Borrowed from Azuki for a road trip.
It's a nice story, though some parts are rather heart-breaking and difficult to stomach.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
A neat story, typical of Billie Letts (of bad things happen to good people but it all works out) and the reader is excellent. This plight of a young sister and brother really tucks at my heart strings.
Putting it into the box for the next reader. Enjoy!

This book enjoyed a brief stop in San Jose, CA before continuing its journey in the Audio Bookbox!

Lutie and Fate McFee, sister and brother, whose mother has passed away and father has left them to go make his fortune in Vegas. The two kids are living with their father's ex-girlfriend when she suddenly dies from a heart attack. Not wanting to be placed in foster care, the two kids travel to Vegas in search of their father only to find the lights and glamour of the famous strip does not offer the family and security they are looking for. After a few hard knocks and a twist of fate, the two children end up in Oklahoma where they face their demons and learn, for the first time, what it is like to be part of a family.
I very much enjoyed listening to this book. At times I wanted to reach into the stereo and slap some sense into Lutie. As a troubled teen she has learned to not let anyone get close and to trust no one. As a result, she makes some bad decisions. I hoped she would face her past and her character would grow and I was happy to see she did just that.

giving to dabercro when I see her this weekend
Received from Aberpeter when I was with her this weekend. Thanks!
Lutie and her young brother, Fate, have been dealt one blow after another during their short lives. They are motherless and their father has left them with his exgirlfriend, Floy. One day, while shopping in Wal-Mart, Floy dies. To avoid the foster care system, they run away to Las Vegas in search of their father. They make poor choices along the way in order to survive. They have an unknown "guardian angel" who seems to be there when they need him. Through their "guardian angel" they finally find a family and a place where they can finally belong.
I listened to this book on my commute to and from work. At times I found it hard to listen to as Lutie was making bad choices and getting involved in things she shouldn't. Through it all, she loves her brother and made some of the choices out of her love for him.
