From a swap self of some library (the Uni or City Main), I suppose. Anyway, I'm sure I know why I took it. One of the greatest movies ever made, Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring by Kim Ki-duk, happens to be South-Korean.

Unfortunately, this book was written before Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring came out and therefore lacks the best Korean movie ever. But even so, I really liked Korean Film. The texts are well-written and the info interesting. Part of me would like to keep this book and read it again some time but then again, it's time for it to go on with it's journey.
It did, however, help me with Amynita's Erilaiset kulttuurit (Different cultures) challenge. Now, what could I say about this book? I've read earlier about the antipathy between the Koreans and the Japanese. For instance, A Yankee Girl describes the Koreans disliking the Japanese and Rei Shimura ja ikebana-mestari (orig. The Flower Master) the Japanese despising the Koreans. But somehow I didn't really understand how the Koreans might feel until I read Korean Film. It was interesting to learn how Korean film makers' reacted to the Japanese Occupation and to the Americanization of Korean film.
A note to self: According to Korean Film, one of the best Korean films is Obaltan (1961) by Hyunmok Yu. Try to see it someday.
