Brilliantly argued piece of polemic about the way Britain's ruling elite have waged, and won, a merciless class war on the working classes. I can't do justice to the author's arguments here, but he really does put into stark perspective the vicious attacks that have been launched on the less well-off members of society, and the way 'divide and rule' tactics have been deployed to great effect. The failings of Labour, both in opposition and government, are examined, as is the inherent nastiness of the Conservative party. OK, there's a chance that the author was preaching to the converted with me, but I actually learnt a great deal reading this. It forced me to challenge some of my own assumptions, and to accept that the constant bombardment by the media that tells us that unemployed people are unemployed because they are lazy and therefore undeserving of our help, can creep into even the most liberal of consciousnesses.
