I started to read this book after hearing about it for years and after seeing "The Hours." I read the first 20 + pages before I realized I just wasn't in the mood for the mood Woolf provokes. The language choices and intriguing pace/rhythm of the sentences made me feel like I was teetering on the edge of a precipice with Mrs. D. I'd like to try reading it again someday, but for now, I'll pass it along.

My book club read The Hours a few years ago, and Virginia Woolf as she's writing Mrs. Dalloway, is a featured character. So I was really excited when I found this book at the Polka Dot Cake Studio in the west Village. I'd never read Mrs. Dalloway before. This quick read was such a struggle! It's taken me months to complete the book. And at some point I felt guilty about keeping it so long. But I wanted to finish it and finally did. Needless to say, I was thoroughly bored with most of the characters, the trivialities of the day and the conversations they had in their heads. 'Sfunny, just now, that seems like contemporary society. Our inner monologue and ways of being stop us from moving the conversation forward about what life is really about and what contributions we can make. Is that the point Virginia Woolf was making? I am releasing the book within the next two days. Perhaps the next reader will get something more out of it.
