I've tried to read this book as a Finnish translation, but didn't really get into it. Registered for bookcrossing purposes.

www.amazon.com:

"More magical than Mistry, more of a rollicking good read than Rushdie, more nerve-tinglingly imagined than Naipaul, here, perhaps, is the greatest Indian novel by a woman. Arundhati Roy has written an astonishingly rich, fertile novel, teeming with life, colour, heart-stopping language, wry comedy and a hint of magical realism.

Set against a background of political turbulence in Kerala, Southern India, The God of Small Things tells the story of twins Esthappen and Rahel. Amongst the vats of banana jam and heaps of peppercorns in their grandmother’s factory, they try to craft a childhood for themselves amidst what constitutes their family – their lonely, lovely mother, their beloved Uncle Chacko (pickle baron, radical Marxist and bottom-pincher) and their avowed enemy Baby Kochamma (ex-nun and incumbent grand-aunt)."

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

I noticed the book by coincidence on my way home from downtown. I saw something on the statue looking like a book and I had to check if it was a wild bookcrossing book. And indeed it was! I left the book in the wild, because I've read it before. It's a good book, although very sad and quite cruel. I like the way pickle-making is described.
Greetings, lukutuoli!

I found this book (which was originally released by myself) from the local lost property office about a month ago. I visited the place again today, and as no one had caught the book from the basket, picked it up with me and decided to post it to Alerion as a wish list surprise :)

An interesting but a bit difficult book. The story of a family in India with details from three generations. The ruined life of two generations and the importance of the small things and the small joys of life. A strong story but somehow it tired me.
