The Patience Stone
8 journalers for this copy...
description from Goodreads.com:
"A young woman prays at her husband's bedise as he lies in a coma with a bullet in his neck. From outside come the sounds of tanks, gunshots, screaming and, most terrifying of all, silence. Inisde, her two frightened daughters call to her from the hallway.
As she tries to keep her husband alive, the woman rages against men, war, culture, God. Even as her mind appears to unravel, she becomes intensely clear-sighted. Now is her chance - her first ever - to speak without being censored. Her husband's body reminds her of the legend of the patience stone, a stone that hears all confessions until it explodes, and finally, spurred to new heights of daring, she spills out her most explosive secret."

This was an intriguing book! I think the impact of the book would have been even stronger if I hadn't just finished reading another similar book... I was hoping for a different kind of ending. Definitely a worthwhile read!
This book will travel onwards as soon as possible (when the weather calms down) :)

This is a short and intense book. The story felt real and I felt very sorry for the protagonist, what a terrible life. Recommended reading.

Read it sometime last month but forgot to make the JE (I must confess that knowing that one doesn't receive JE's notifications is making me more and more lazy about journaling books).
I loved this little book quite a lot. Usually I wouldn't read in english a book originally written in french, but I didn't realize that was the case with this one until I had it with me. Even so, I enjoyed the reading very much and I'm very happy I got the opportunity to get to it.
If it's true that we can, through this novel, read the speech of a woman saying Everything to her husband, I cannot but wonder if, in a similar scenario, a woman would be indeed able to speak it out loud
when a man cannot even write it down in his own language!
Besides this that just lingered as an after thought, the only thing that really pissed me off (pardon my french) was the introduction: is there any need at all to tell us in a few words all that the novel takes a few dozen pages to go through in its paced rhythm? It just spoils it!
Therefore, IF YOU'RE GOING TO READ THIS BOOK, PLEASE LEAVE THE INTRODUCTION TO THE END!

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
To the winner of the Authors from Unusual Countries Sweepstakes of March 2019. This one is a book from an Afghan writer but originaly written in french. Still, I believe it falls under the "unusual countries"'s category because it realy is about (a kind of) life in Afghanistan.
I hope you like it and enjoy the "book shower" that's on your way!
