A young boy is thrown off a ferry and into icy Lake Champlain. When rescued by Miss Troy Chance who is riding a ferry in the opposite direction, he tells a story of being kidnapped and his mother murdered. While feeling a special bond with the child, Troy tries to find the kidnappers.

Although entertaining, there were a few points in the plot that strained credibility, and I found the translation of the French phrases unnecessary and irritating.

I really enjoyed this! I especially liked little Paul, struggling to become fully bilingual. Kept me guessing until near the end. Liked that the action straddled the US/Quebec border.

Thanks again to the previous readers for sharing!

Edit: Reserved for bookstogive's General Literature VBB.

How I love the mail carrier when he delivers a surprise RABCK!! This novel looks just wonderful for reading in the cold winter days and will undoubtedly tickle my French bones (as did the great bookmark enclosed!). Many thanks to Eponine (whose moniker also tickles my French side!) and all the previous readers who continued to send this lovely hardcover book along!
