From the Back: Singapore 1956. Bertha was from a Portuguese Eurasian family. Pa (Father was what one called the priest) was in "the force" and, together with Ma, Eric and Beryl, her life revolved around Sunday Masses, school, hockey, Christmases, weddings and family gatherings, where one danced, flirted with the boys or simply hung around the bar reminiscing the good old days.
But the cold winds of change were blowing. Political violence and racial riots spilled onto the streets threatening to end forever the peaceful lifestyle of a fragile community.

To provide a glimpse of Eurasian life as it was (is?) in Singapore and its surroundings it was interesting, but apart from that I wasn't too impressed with the quality of the story as far as this espionage stuff is concerned or the depth of the characters. I've read along without too much interest in their destinies. And providing a glossary which consists mostly of lacks with regard to used terms in the text isn't especially helpful either.
