I've been intrigued by the "Parasol Protectorate" series, and when I saw this manga adaptation of the first book at Barnes and Noble I couldn't resist it! (I'd been curious about this series but hadn't dipped into the books; the manga made me reach the tipping point.)

And I thoroughly enjoyed it - a lively story, amusing and entertaining dialog and plot twists, a heroine who's strong-willed, intelligent, and great at snarky remarks (not to mention her supernatural abilities, which cause some very funny scenes - and one extremely touching one), and some characters that I dearly want to learn more about (especially Lord Akeldama and Professor Lyall).

Later: I've now read the first book as well, and was pleased to see that the manga does indeed represent the story quite faithfully. I'll be picking up Volume Two of the manga as soon as it's available!

[There's a TV Tropes page for the series, with lots of entertaining info; just beware of spoilers!]
