An old library book I bought at a library sale some years ago (when I was living in Heiloo - according to the library sticker :p).
It has a hard cover but it's not heavy, about 200 grams.

Back of the cover:
Romantic, heroic, comic and tragic, unconventional schoolmistress Jean Brodie has become an iconic figure in post-war fiction. Her glamour, freethinking ideas and manipulative charm hold dangerous sway over her girls at the Marcia Blaine Academy - the 'crème de la crème' - who become the Brodie Set, introduced to a priviliged world of adult games that they will never forget.

Will be going to keeta1 once I've read it (wishlist tag).

Quite enjoyed this little book, though sometimes I got a bit annoyed at the repetitions (...was famous for...), and confused at first because it was mentioned that the Brodie set consisted of 5 girls, but which turned out to be 6. And Mary who died in the fire at 23 years of age, though a page later it says 24.
Anyway, it was easy to read and funny sometimes. The way the story was told, how things would be in the future, but not saying how it got there (for example Miss Brodie was betrayed by one of her own set) makes you curious to find out.
At first I liked Miss Brodie, she seemed different, fun and kind of glamorous for a teacher, but as the girls start to grow up and you see things differently through their eyes, you realize that Miss Brodie is actually a bit ridiculous (as one of the girls says).
I haven't seen the film, will have to keep an eye out for it. ^_^

Oh and this book is also on the list of 1001 books to read before you die. :)

Thank you Tsjara for this book which arrived today. It obviously had an interesting journey, as it attracted the attention of our NZ customs, who opened it to see that you weren't sending any strange goods along with the book!! It all arrived in one piece though :) and I'm looking forward to reading it, although it may take a while to get there, as my TBR pile is rather large.

A short and enjoyable read with interesting characters. I'd say the "Brodie set" were lucky to have such a teacher, when they were young, even though she did seem to have some strange ideas!
