Wow, what a nice surprise to find this in my mailbox today! I'd already forgotten I ever participated in this RABCK draw.

The book has been on my wishlist since 2006 and I'm very glad finally to be able to read it now, after all this time.

I never read anything written by this author before and I did not remember why I put this particular book on my wishlist.

I happen to like coming-of-age stories. For example 'The Glass Castle' by Jeanette Walls which I enjoyed very much (so much so, that I wanted to share it and sent it around the world as a bookring). Similar in the way that it's another novel about a highly dysfunctional American family in the sixties/seventies. It must have been at about the same time I'd first read that novel, that I put this title on my wishlist. It probably came recommended in the reviews, or on the cover.

I did like 'Falling Angels'. It's a poignant, gripping, sad story, but at the same time also hilarious. Th characters are very well drawn. You feel as if you really know them and start feeling sorry for all the miserable things that happen. Like I said, I had some good laughs too though. Barbara Gowdy knows how too discribe sad things with lots of (black) humour. I would certainly like to read more by this author and will put a few more titles on my wishlist.

Thanks again for fulfilling a wish! I will see to it that the book continues travelling somehow one day.

Gefeliciteerd, je hebt dit boek gevonden! Ik hoop dat je ervan zult genieten. Wil je, als je het uit hebt, hier vertellen wat je ervan vond? Daarna zou het leuk zijn als je het verder laat reizen. Je kan het aan een kennis geven om te lezen of zomaar 'in het wild' ergens achterlaten zodat iemand anders het kan vinden. Bijvoorbeeld weer hier in het restaurant, maar ook op een bankje in een park (goed verpakt!) of in de trein! Overal waar maar mensen komen!
