Blurb:
Once a renowned investigative journalist, since the unsolved disappearance of his 6-year-old son, Joe Donovan has lived a broken, reclusive life. He's abruptly thrust back into the real world when a teenage boy makes contact, in desperate need of his help. Jamal has in his possession something that holds a key to Donovan's past, a past that can only be unlocked by forcing him to make a terrifying journey into the present.
As long buried secrets begin to emerge and bodies pile up, Donovan finds himself caught up in a harrowing web of fear. In order to survive and uncover the disturbing truth at the heart of the dangerous world he's found himself in, he puts together a team to help him, a team of outsiders that doesn't care which side of the law it operates on. And Donovan will need their help. He and Jamal are being hunted by a death metal addicted serial killer. A killer with a 100% success rate. A killer who doesn't know the meaning of the word mercy.

Martyn Waites will be a speaker at the BCUK Unconvention in Colchester on 29th September 2012.

Received safely in the post this morning, thank you.

Journal Entry 4 by wingrahar109wing at Farnborough, Hampshire United Kingdom on Thursday, August 9, 2012
Dark, grim thriller with not very likeable characters. At the beginning I couldn't keep track of them all and, annoyingly, had to keep flipping back to remind myself who was who. It will be interesting to see if the atmosphere is as bleak when Waites writes (with his wife) as Tania Carver.
Thank you for starting this ray, ApoloniaX.

Off to Nu-Knees now.

Thank you, ApoloniaX and rahar109! I already have a couple of UK Uncon BookRays here to read but, fortunately for me, none of them have anyone waiting for them as yet, so I'm not holding anyone up and don't feel under too great a pressure to finish them immediately!
I've just started my first Martyn Waites, not yet far enough in to comment, but I'm afraid I wasn't too impressed with Cage of Bones, written with his wife as Tania Carver, so I'm not too hopeful ...
I have heard him speak in our local library, so I know I'll be interested to see/hear him in Colchester in September!
See you both, then!

Well that didn't last long! I didn't even complete the Prologue before I gave up! Torture really isn't my thing! I tried, I really did - and I managed about 3 pages of ghastly details before abandoning the attempt! Sorry!
With no other names on the Ray after me, I'll just hang onto it for a while ...
I'm still looking forward to seeing/hearing the author in Colchester! Honest! It's gonna be good!

Journal Entry 8 by wingNu-Kneeswing at Knaresborough, North Yorkshire United Kingdom on Wednesday, September 19, 2012
As no-one has joined the BookRay after me
and as I'm leaving home soon for a week's holiday in Norfolk before the Unconvention at the end of the month
and as I'll no longer have internet access so that I won't know if anybody else does suddenly want this book,
I'm just going to put it in my suitcase and bring it out again when I get to Colchester ....

Over a million people around the world give their books a unique BookCrossing IDentity number (BCID) before sending them out to find new readers. Since the start of the scheme in April 2001 well over 9 million such books have been put into circulation. This is one of them!
Our hope is that we can track the progress of our books once they've left our hands - and that's possible if finders like you visit the website, key in the BCID and leave a comment, however long or short. It's fun, it doesn't cost anything and you can remain anonymous if you wish. You don't have to join but if you do you'll be able to number and track your own books!

I took two Martyn Waites' books from the booktable in SlackSpace and now I am curious about what I will think about them!

An exciting, cruel and very violent story, with elements of love and compassion. I liked it and look forward to reading The Bone Machine by the same author.
