I was doing some major clean up of the house today and found a few audio books by the desk. I must have taken them out of the audio box a few weeks back but did not journal. Sorry.
Some memoirs are interesting because what happened is something unusual and worth telling, and some tell an ordinary life with great writing skills. Sadly for this one, it falls a bit short on both counts. Or maybe that's just because I've read Imperial Life in The Emerald City, which is a much better book.
It's about two single white males, in their twenties, somewhat clueless, rather immature, somehow made their way into post-war Iraq and ended up at the desk managing a NPO. There are some interesting anecdotes of what happened in those mad days of post-war Iraq (actually, at the moment of writing... the word post-war is not entirely appropriate... what a mess we've created indeed) but the whole experience is rather shallow. And least you think that this experience will mature them, well, what happened after they left Iraq totally dash any hope.

Next stop for the bus: imawinn2 in Wisconsin! Have a safe trip!
The Bus has arrived in Wisconsin. It came earlier in the week. Looks like a good tale. Thanks for sharing!
Interesting memoir. Two young, adventure and thrill seeking American men decide to pull together their cash and head to the middle East. At times, I found the guys a bit annoying but that didn't stop me from wanting to hear how they got themselves in and out of various predicaments (some self made). Let's just say they are lucky to have made it home alive. Sheesh!
Sending this off to Rebekkila who picked this audiobook from a VVB. Happpy Travels!
I caught this in the audio VBB. Thank you
