Picked up at today's bookcrossing meet at Towcester Mill Brewery.

This is a decent murder mystery set in Saudi Arabia, but against that particular background it also offers a great deal of insight into the lives and attitudes of the men and women of that country and foreigners, the teachings of the Koran and its history. Change is underway, with fundamentalists still holding great influence, and modernists, both men and women, trying to make their way according to their beliefs, but still at risk from the attentions of the religious police. The author achieves a good balance of these themes and offers us a gripping mystery as well.
