Picked up at the school fete this afternoon.

I've loved this book, it had a particular atmosphere which is hard to pin down. There is such an ethereal quality to the writing somehow; even when describing a heroin junkie or burnt out houses on a stretch of road surrounded by desert it's dreamlike and other worldly.
The heroine is not typical in any sense but you end up really caring and hoping that everything comes right for her.
I've been to some of the areas described in the book and I can well imagine its an accurate portrayal of the seamier side of LA - the people, look and feel of the settings.

Must look out for more by this author.

Picked up from the table at the meet yesterday...apparently i have to read this before Christmas!....i better do otherwise i'll be in big trouble :0)

After all these years, I might not be in big trouble anymore but I certainly didn't read it before that Christmas! It just goes to show that I can't resist a book someone else has really enjoyed and talked to me about it...and as you will see I thought it was quite a lovely read too!

I rather enjoyed reading this, it did occur to me that I haven't read a novel centred around a teenager for a while - I think maybe that's what I liked about it, a quirky character who thought she knew so much, but life taught her that she had so much more still to learn and the importance of observation !

I think the short chapters made it harder to put the book down at times too, so it turned into a page turner and quite entertaining overall. I picked it up as I will be taking part in a rainbow book box soon - I'm glad the colour scheme drew it to my attention I will try to keep an eye out for this author but I do have a fair few books to be reading, meantime :0)
