I enjoyed Brothers of the Night, another anthology by the same editors, so when I saw this slightly-battered softcover for sale on Better World Books, I couldn't resist it.

Turns out I didn't enjoy this collection quite as much as Brothers of the Night, though there were a few stories that I really liked, including Carol Queen's "Feeding", a very sexy/gory account of vampiric love-and-sex. William J. Mann's "Waiting for the Vampire", one of the longer stories here, mixed fear-of-sex and fear-of-life elements with vampire characters. David Nickle's "Sick Reggie" makes the vampires frightening and seductive - but also puts them in a rather pathetic situation. M. Christian's "Wet" is (of course) highly erotic, and adds layers of attraction and vampire-elements to make a compelling story - this one's perhaps my favorite in this collection.

Ron Oliver's "Belo Lugosi is Dead" is a wry little chiller that opens with "Me and David were vampires," a great opening line!

Poppy Z. Brite's "His Mouth Will Taste of Wormwood" is a classic, and one that I've read in other collections and enjoyed. It's an overt homage to Lovecraft's "The Hound", dealing with a pair of young men who seek increasingly ghoulish experiences - but Brite's version adds sexuality and vampiric elements.

I plan to trade this book in at the Used Book Superstore for cash or credit with which to buy more books (I can never get out of this store without a stack!). Hope the buyer enjoys the book!
