I came across this new manga series and had to give it a try - it features the fairly-standard character of a demon-hunting teenager, but she has a pair of shape-shifter familiars who take the form of twin wolf pups, ridiculously cute. [I enjoyed the author's goofy Clean Freak, so I'm hoping this will be as entertaining.]

Later: Lots of promise in the story, though in this volume things don't advance very far. We learn that Takamichi, mourning the death of her twin brother (who died protecting her from one of the demon-creatures they fight), is given the two wolf-spirit pups by her father to give her something to focus on. She rears them for three years, during which time they become grown wolves - and, in their human forms, teenage boys, who like to snuggle with Takamichi at night. But they're still a mix of juvenile and dog, mentally, devoted to her but hurt when she leaves them behind, not realizing she wants to protect them so she doesn't lose anything else she cares for.

This volume spends a lot of time building up to her realization that she DOES care for them, that to make them happy she needs to let them protect her as much as she protects them, and that they make a team. There are some funny bits - the guys managing to turn up as students at her school after she's told them to stay home, lots of bickering between the guys (one needs glasses, the other gets jealous because the first has been given such a cool accessory), etc. But things get serious later on, with the full moon making all three characters more emotional, and the two wolf-boys actually attack each other and wind up wounding Takamichi rather badly as she intervenes to protect each one. The penalty for a "jiu jiu" - the name for the sidekick-spirits - harming a master? Death! But Takamichi's not about to let her people harm her friends...

Cute series, with characters I rather like; if I come across more volumes I'll certainly check them out.
