The first book in the Chief Inspector Armand Gamache series.

It takes place in the sleepy village of Three Pines, and everyone in town is surprised that someone has been murdered, bringing Inspector Gamache and his detectives, of the Surete du Quebec homicide division into town.

I liked this so much, I went on to read the whole series (7 books, so far!)
