The novel traces the events of Jane Austen's well-loved Pride and Prejudice through the eyes of Mr Darcy. It reveals his reactions to Elizabeth, his gradual falling in love and the process by which he painfully gains self-knowledge, and it brings to life all the off-stage events that are only referred to in Austen's novel.
We learn of Darcy's life in London, of his dangerous friendship with Byron, of the responsibilities that come with running Pemberley, and the terrible guilt he feels at not protecting his sister well enough from the dastardly Wickham. We also see Miss Bingley's increasingly desperate attempts to woo Darcy, and his own part in bringing about the separation between Elizabeth's sister and his own best friend.
But above all, we come to know Fitzwilliam Darcy as a fully-rounded character, with all his flaws and all his attractions, and we learn that the story told from his point of view is as enchanting, gripping and unforgettable as Jane Austen's original.
I bought this book for a special BC friend, but given that I also love Pride & Prejudice and all things Austen-related, I HAD to read this! The detail is good and I enjoyed reading the parallel timeline to events in the Bennett family.
I also laughed several times; my favourite entries are for April 22 (last paragraph) and May 2. It would be so wonderful if Colin Firth could narrate this book for an audio CD... *SIGH*.

Yes! Yet another book from my wishlist. You do spoil me, my dear friend!
I love Pride and Prejudice, and I was wildly in love with Mr Darcy at one point in life! I do look forward to this one.
Note to self: going to Lunacia afterwards.

I really enjoyed this little gem. To get into the head og Mr Darcy was a joy.
Peebles efforts of dressing him more extravagant made me laugh, he is also portraied very openminded. Actually being more surprised at one of Byron's two playthings was a girl, than Byron having orgies and sleeping with men.
I also liked the way his cousin, Anne was portraied, a lot more head on her shoulders than how I normally thnk of her.
The book is going next to another Austen fan.
